From November the 1st 2010, a one month Xbox LIVE Gold membership will cost £5.99. You will still be able to enjoy even better value with our three month (£14.99) and twelve month(£39.99) memberships, which will remain unchanged.
Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences which our members love. We’re confident that for less than £6 a month, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership offers the best value in the industry. When the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry, including:Full Article at: Xbox.comWhat does this mean for me? Well. I buy annual membership anyway so I'm not affected by it but this hike in price has lead me to motivate myself to do something what I've been needing to do in a long time. Renovate my computer. Saving up for the next few months I'll have a radical online machine. ;D

I think this really blows.
People are going to say "it's only 10 dollars," but the problem is everyone has this attitude while EVERYTHING is going up. Gas, food, etc. With salaries not going up, we are moving to the age where you will only be able to afford the necessities of life and perhaps only do one thing, like gaming, but nothing else recreational like movies, music, concerts and the like.
Also, I am also going to get a high end computer very soon and it very well may change my gaming habits. My friends have all told me that I will definitely be playing the consoles less but I don't know about that. I always will need a Nintendo system for their games and I can't see myself passing on games like Dead Rising and Fable 3.

Its not that big a deal really, plus they are adding more stuff, like with a netflix suscription you can have Xbox parties all watching hulu together or something like that. They also are adding something else I forget what it is, but basically I dunno. There are more features, and they have been adding more and more so a price hike isnt such a big deal, and it's not by very much either.

So long as they don't up the year long one, I'm ok. Hell, even if they do, I'll bitch and moan but I'll still pay <_<

Also, I am also going to get a high end computer very soon and it very well may change my gaming habits. Online gaming is most definitely addictive. As a former PC gamer before I bought into Xbox Live I can tell you that even now the people who say that PC gaming is dead are very very wrong. With games that are playable on consoles like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Left 4 Dead proving massively popular in PC sales that actually get bought by people who aren't 9 year olds with Internet Tough Guy Syndrome as well as Steam which is providing more and more gaming content for us online PC gaming is still remaining competitive despite not really needing to compete with consoles. PC gaming opens up an entire new world of possibiltiies that consoles simply can not do. For example, popular console titles such as Oblivion, Fallout, Unreal Tournament etc. both have MASSIVE online modding communities where people go to great lengths to create all new original content such as weapons, quests, houses, realms etcetera usually for free can dramatically increase the gameplay time. Then of course there's Half Life 1 & 2, Team Fortress 2 and all the other offshoots in that kind of world but let's not get into that. Either way, PC gaming is A LOT bigger than it seems. My only concern now is that my means of saving up money in order to buy this PC is to stop paying for public transport and simply walk everywhere even places that take me many miles. I'm doing this with the eventual aim of getting back into PC FPS games but I fear that by the time I'm able to renovate my computer I'll have the physical fitness to play FPS IRL.

I've got hardly any time for a job what with my immense social life, ACW, studying and all that walking to do. Plus it's shit hard getting a job when you're 17 now.

Console gaming will never die. I believe this. With that said, PC Gaming has another spike coming up...and it's a pretty good option if you got the billion dollar machine. As far as online gaming goes? I've been screwed since April and probably will be for quite awhile.

As far as online gaming goes? I've been screwed since April and probably will be for quite awhile. With a little bit of tech-savvy (or ExpertVillage guides) you can actually build yourself a state of the art computer custom tailored to meet your specific needs at a very competitve price if you know the parts to get. My current machine cost me £600 (932 dollars) when I first bought it and this wasn't exactly the kinda' stuff they'd use in The Pentagon but this motherfucker was state of the art and if it wasn't for my graphics card blowing up it'd still be very damn competitive. You don't have to spend millions on a top of the range Dell Deluxe gaming system to be totally leet. Of course, that price includes my (now bust as of six months ago) high quality speakers, a top of the range monitor, the tower unit to contain it all in and various drives which can all be reused from your previous system whereas I bought mine new.

It sounds a lot less competitive with all the broken things factored in. With that said, I have no money to spend on a new computer. Though I desperately need one.

It's only the graphics card and speakers. Otherwise for it's age it is pretty damn good. I wouldn't say I desperately need a new one but I would like one.

Ah, shit. That's really bad for me, since I don't get year-long subscriptions or anything like that. I usually go one month at a time.
