Bluefield, West Virginia may have a population of 11,000... but it's just one native man that many wrestling fans have turned their attention to. Allan Christopher Murphy (or "Short Fuse" Murphy as the folks at the small West Virginian bars he often frequents calls him) understandably has some butterflies in his stomach. "I'll be honest, this if the biggest stage I've been to in my career," Murphy states, "but I know if I screw this up, it'll be the highest stage I'll ever see. I know I won't though... I've worked far to hard to get here just to get turned away."
Throughout most of the day, Murphy kept his thoughts to himself, but that's nothing unusual. Around his native city, many noted that he was always well-mannered and kept to himself. Most of the city's population knew him from the various jobs he performed around the downtown area. Whether it was painting road markings or replacing road signs, he was never too busy to smile and wave. It's safe to say that those same people he waved at daily were surprised when they saw his picture on a flyer advertising a wrestling show.
Patricia Manning (72), an area woman, used to pay Murphy fifteen dollars a week to mow her yard after her husband passed away. "Allan was always a good boy who did what he could to help out. There was never a job too big or too small for him. I don't understand why he'd ever decide to fight for a living, but my prayers are always with him," Manning says.
