OK, I got Photoshop yesterday. Some people have seen my first project and it wasn't very good. So heres my second attempt. Tell me what you think.

In all honesty, it's a good first attempt but definitely needs a lot of work. For one thing, I don't know how you do your backgrounds, but they always seem to end up looking squashed. Try selecting just a part of one (with the selection tool, preferably set to the size of your banner) and using that. Whatever way your doing it now leads to unrecognizable things.
The second area I'd work on would be layout. The poser idea is nice, but it's a little too far off to the side compared to the poser. Maybe try putting something else in there.
I know it may be frustrating at first, but try to just work on the basics such as layer positioning, layer styles and image resizing. In time you can move on to more advanced areas such as brush work and such.
Keep up the good efforts though.

Good first try, but yeah could use work. The picture on the left just looks plain and sticks out probably more than it should. And those do look like fish, especially the one in the middle.

Could use quite a bit of work, but as others have said it's not a bad first attempt...mine was much worse than that and, if I remember correctly, flourescent. *shudders*
Anyway, the best advice I can give you would be to try out as many tutorials as possible. I did this when I first started (and still do at times) and it really helps you grasp the different uses for the various tools and you also pick up numerous tricks which help you when you're doing work in the future.
