This would be my second WWE live event that I went to, the first being at 9/11/07 before Unforgiven that had HHH vs. Vince as the main event, which I wasn't happy with - but also had some other solid matches on the card. I expected this to be better, but it ended up being just a fraction of a bit better but overall I enjoyed the experience.
Note: When the ticket says it starts at 7:30 - apparently, it starts at 7:30. It took me a while to get to my gate and then even find my seat, but I finally plopped by myself there while the first person came out.
Intercontinental Championship
Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre
- A little preview for their match tonight at Fatal Four Way, and it was definitely an entertaining one. The Boom Squad was definitely in the building tonight as many times throughout the match "KOFI" chants broke out. McIntyre got a nice heel reaction, and he ended up losing when hit with the SOS. After the match he attacked Kofi, when suddenly Mat Hardy - who looks even bigger live than on TV, jumps the rail and attacks McIntyre with no real security to stop him but he referees. He then takes off into the crowd once again and now McIntyre tries to escape. Hardy then runs through the entrance and he tosses McIntyre back in the ring and then gets volleyed with a Trouble in Paradise and a Twist of Fate.
MVP & Christian vs. SES (Luke Gallows & Masked Man) w/Serena
- SES got a decent reaction, mainly because they came out to Luke Gallows' music and people were wondering what kind of music is that. Then both MVP & Christian came out to decent face reactions, MVP's bigger than Christian's - even though I was cheering for Christian. I can easily say from his body type that I'm about 94% sure that the masked man is Joey Mercury. Nonetheless, MVP wins with the Play of the Day and the crowd eats it up.
- Kelly Kelly was introduced as the host of the night, and my god her screaming was like nails on chalkboard. She asked someone where the first WM was held and this kid decked out Cena gear, (as 70% of the kids were - looking like orange drones). Anyway, he won and got to be the best bell ringer of this match - which lasted incredibly short as he was sent back to his seat 3 minutes into the next match.
CM Punk w/Serena vs. Kane
- CM Punk came out to a mixed reaction from the crowd, as the smarks in attendance loved Punk - but that soon turned into instant heat as he opened this mouth and said that he was the best thing to ever happen to us people. He talked about not drinking or using drugs and the parents in the crowd applauded him. Kane came out to another good pop, and I was anticipating pyro - but I guess they don't do that at MSG. Honestly, I didn't like this match - probably because I've seen it like a MILLION times. Kane beat Punk with a Chokeslam however.
US Championship
The Miz vs. Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry vs. R-Truth
- The Miz came out to another mixed reaction, but that also turned into heat and ended up getting the biggest heat of the night thus far, especially when he said Lebron would be NEVER coming to the Knicks. He tried to say his "I'm the Miz, and I'm Awesome" schtick - but when the crowd tried to say it too, he stopped and told them they couldn't. He did it again and we did it anyway. R-Truth was also over with his WHATS UP song. Which definitely sounded like "sdnsaweujhnszxjka WHATS UP! WHATS UP! WHATS UP! sdhnsanklsdfnsznsldauiwpq" tonight. It was a solid Fatal Four Way match, with a few creative spots such as Bourne jumping on Henry's shoulders and jumping off to hit Miz with the double knee to the chest. However, when Bourne hit the AirBourne on Truth - Miz chucked him out the ring and picked up the cover FTW.
World Heavyweight Championship - No DQ
Jack Swagger vs. The Big Show
Swagger came out to a meh heel reaction from the crowd, which is bad especially since he's supposed to be the top heel on SD. Big Show came out and the crowd loved him for sure, and when the match began that love increased. Show started off the match with a ton of funny antics that had everyone laughing, even myself, and it was the first time I've heard that he got nearly complete silence when doing his open hand chops. The match definitely went back and forth a bit, until randomly out of nowhere the opening key of Kane's music hit and the crowd went WTF as he ran out. Swagger rolled out and Kane hit Big Show with the Chokeslam and then left. Swagger then rolled back in and pinned to retain his title.
After the match, Kane decided to come back out and finish the job on the retaining Swagger and Chokeslammed him into the depths of hell. Big Show got up and got a nice ovation from the crowd, and then proceeded to knock out Swagger after the match for another pop. Great work by both men in this match.
Intermission
Six Divas Tag (w/Santino as the ref)
Maryse & Lay-Cool vs. Eve & The Bella Twins
- This match definitely needs a bit more Santino antics because the crowd HATED this match. We could definitely respect women's wrestling - but after this intermission and that Swagger/Big Show match, no one liked the slow pace this match took. This match got "THIS IS STUPID" chants and "BORING", along with a mild "TNA" chant. Eventually, Eve won and the crowd was happy it was over.
Randy Orton vs. Edge
- When Edge's music hit - he definitely got the biggest pop of the night by far, especially from me. While he may be the Rated R Superstar some of the kids who were wearing Cena shirts loved him and threw up the rock star fingers. And then Orton's music hits and his pop was even BIGGER, and you could hear people singing along to his music which was awesome. This was probably match of the night tied with the main event. It was so back and forth and you didn't know who would win at that point, but it was Randy as he hit an RKO out of nowhere and the crowd loved it. RKO chants throughout the match entirely. Definitely glad to see Edge live too, since he's my favorite wrestler.
WWE Championship
John Cena vs. Sheamus
- Sheamus comes out, and he beats the buzzer for getting the biggest heat of the night thus far. Also, he's one big son bitch live - man, I know he's pale - but he's HUGE. Then Cena's music hit and my ears exploded. No 50/50 tonight, the crowd loved Cena when he came out even though there was a bulk of those who booed him as well. The two smarks behind me tried to get a Daniel Bryan chant going, but failed. Note: When trying to get a chant started, you need like a group of people with you - at least 5 or 6. If you're lucky you can start one on your own. The kids LOVED Cena however. This was a good match too, it was back and forth and really got the crowd's attention every step of the way. As Cena had Sheamus up for the Attitude Adjustment, Wade Barrett came out through the crowd, which temporarily distracted him. But Cena ended up hitting the AA for the win anyway and that's when NXT poured in.
- The beatdown on Cena commenced like two weeks ago, and they got a ton of heat - but when the other RAW guys (& Kofi) ran to their rescue such as Bourne, Henry, Orton, Edge, and etc - they headed for the hills.
- Cena then thanked MSG for being MSG, and he said this is truly the heart & soul of the WWE. He got a nice ovation as he left, and then the show was over.
================
Overall, as I look back on it - it was a pretty damn good show. Despite a few set backs and matches I didn't like, they did a good job entertaining and I'll definitely be in attendance when they come back and probably more closer to the front, I don't care if I have to go myself - I'll be in the front. =]
