HistoryPast, Present, and FutureThe Astonishing One!Adrian Flamingo was born Adrian Flanagan, son of a marketing guru who had made millions thinking up some of the lamest commercials and jingles that you can’t get out of your head. The youngest of two children, Adrian grew up very detached from his workaholic father and his spoiled mother, and at a young age was shipped off to boarding school with his sister. It was there Adrian managed to see professional wrestling, most notably lucha libre, in one of the other boy’s dorms. Finding tapes and magazines were difficult, but when you have an unlimited supply of cash, it wasn’t impossible by any means. After graduating, Adrian booked himself a flight to Mexico to learn from the masters of the sport.
Training in Mexico City from the likes of Blue Panther, El Hijo del Santo, Misticio, and Ultimo Guerrero was difficult seeing how the stigma of being a rich white boy put a target on his back, but Adrian preserved. Once graduating, Adrian donned a hood and was teamed up with a fellow graduate to form Los Rudos. After a brief run, Adrian realized that he had the talent, but not the style he desired. So, after booking a flight to Portland, Oregon, Adrian soon started studying under another master, “Playboy” Buddy Rose. Now, with the skills of his lucha heroes and the style of the Playboy, Adrian was ready for the independent scene. Thus, “Astonishing” Adrian Flamingo was born and unleashed on promotions who supported the lucha libre style like Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Chikara Pro, IWA: Mid-South, and Full Impact Pro. Adrian’s skill and his untamed mic skills made him a quick favorite in almost every promotion he was in, and soon Alpha Championship Wrestling took notice. Before Adrian could say “goody goody gumdrops”, he was signed to ACW and having the taste knocked out of his mouth by Kudo.
Almost immediately, Adrian Flamingo started bumping heads with another ACW star on the rise named Thunderkiss. Although harsh words were shared, their battles were merely competitive competition between two men whose style almost mirrored one another’s. Adrian’s second rival wasn’t as friendly. Adrian, who hired a bodyguard by the name of Mister Jones and an agent named William Epstein, formed Machismo International in an effort to elevate his own status in the company, as well as help give him headroom in Hollywood. When Epstein pointed out that Flamingo needed someone to elevate his stock in the company, he chose a young man by the name of Nick Durden who had been raising some hell in ACW himself. However when Flamingo propositioned Durden to agree to a match and take a fall for an undisclosed amount of money, Durden declined. Not one for taking no for an answer, Flamingo took Epstein’s advice once more and started to do a little research on Mr. Durden. Once he discovered a juicy little secret about the man, Flamingo began waving it in front of his face and blackmailing him until he made the match. Flamingo had pushed Durden to the brink, causing Durden to kidnap and beat William Epstein half to death. Unfortunately, for the Astonishing One, Durden picked a match that Flamingo had never dreamed of… an Ice Coffin Match. The rules stated that you had to slam your opponent through a layer of ice and into a tank of freezing water. After a 1978 Flamingo Special, a bloody and bruised Adrian Flamingo emerged victorious and actually saved the man whose career he threatened to end by smashing the glass tank open while Durden was submerged. In typical Adrian Flamingo fashion, though, Adrian shook off the handshake and the two men took a month off to recover.
After a month break and filming his first movie, “Death by Sexy”, Adrian Flamingo returned not only to the delight of fans, but the rekindled feud with Nick Durden. Nick Durden was stunned that Flamingo, a brash joker, had managed to upset him in his own match, so it was time to let the words fly. After a brief, but unsuccessful tag team, both men were at each other’s throats… but the mindsets were much more different. Nick Durden focused on becoming a monster and ending the Astonishing One’s career, while Adrian was granted a very peculiar gift. His older sister, who was about to go on honeymoon, had dropped off her five year old son for Adrian to watch. Nathan, or Kid Flamingo as he would later go by, grew up just like Adrian had. Both rich, both well off, but both neglected by their parents. Adrian formed a bond with Kid Flamingo and decided to do everything in his power to let the kid have the time of his life before he was sent off to private school. All the while, Durden was learning how to be more vicious and more sinister in the ring. The time had come for both men to lock up once more, but this time it was an iron man match. The results were different this time, as it was an exhausted Nick Durden that won the match and the battle. After months of feuding with Nick Durden which saw both men end their bitter war with a handshake, Adrian Flamingo found himself lost amongst the rest of the roster. So in typical Adrian Flamingo style, he took another leave of absence to better enjoy his remaining time with Kid Flamingo.
Upon his return, Adrian found himself in a very different atmosphere than the one he left a month earlier. His best friend and bodyguard, Mister Jones, was nowhere in sight and he managed to draw one of the more inexperienced names as his partner in the Lethal Lottery - Ricky Falco. The team managed to pull it through the first round when Adrian sacrificed himself for the win, to which he received no praise. Naturally, Adrian was disappointed with his partner, but something else was eating at him. Jones’ departure from his services was quick, sudden, and took much more out of him than he had originally thought. After an uncomfortable chat with ACW’s resident doctor, Alexander Starkweather, Adrian found himself bogged down with more questions than answers. He soon found himself following in his mother’s footsteps by turning to the bottle to ease his problems. However this seemed to start more problems than solve them as he found himself in a confrontation with Scott Andrews. After a disappointing loss to Andrews, Adrian found himself face to face with BK London and longtime rival Thunderkiss in the second round of the tourniment, but in a surprising turn of events, Adrian was apathetic to the whole thing.
In fact, Adrian didn’t seem to care about being the struttin’ throwback wrestler he once was and declared his frustration with everything he was and everyone’s general underestimation. So, in a surprising turn of events, Adrian declared that he was no longer “Astonishing” and vowed to show ACW what a serious Adrian Flamingo can accomplish. The Ticking TimebombAdrian's first target was a man who had embarassed him backstage just a few weeks earlier - "Vigilante" Scott Andrews. Instead of up-right challenging Scott, Adrian decided to make his presence felt by heckling Andrews from the crowd during his matches. Andrews, a man who wished to uphold the respect and dignity of wrestling, didn't take to kindly to Adrian's childish antics and challenged Adrian to a dog collar match so that he couldn't run away. However, Adrian proved that his higher impact moveset and focused mindset was too much for the member of the Senatorial Stable.
The same night, however, Adrian Flamingo did something that would define his career. After winning a match to face then ACW World Champion, Wyvern, BK London was poised to take the title one more time - that was until Adrian Flamingo struck. After immobilizing BK long enough for Wyvern to pick up the win, Adrian Flamingo continued his assault on BK and broke his leg. An injury that BK has yet to return from.
The next few months was a flurry of wins over established names and the favorite to win the upcoming Emperor of the Ring. Unfortunately for Flamingo, he was upset in the second round by Jason Freeman. Flamingo would later go on to be revealed as the third member of Alexander Starkweather's stable with Yoko Satoshi in a surprising turn of events that lead to Wyvern being dethroned as ACW World Champ.
From there, Adrian Flamingo began doing his damnedest to get under the skin of Senator Phillips. With Senator, Adrian put his genius to works and played off Senator's love of good competition. So, Adrian being Adrian, threw his first two title shots with Senator by allowing himself to be pinned or tapping out quickly. Senator's irritation for Flamingo only grew as his childish antics continued. Meanwhile, Adrian also began having problems with a mysterious man under an OLYMPIA mask who seemed to have fun finding new ways to jump Adrian after his matches. The masked man was later to be revealed to be a relative of BK London who went against his wishes by trying to defend his honor. Adrian made quick work of the young man and proceeded to break his leg in a similar fashion as BK's.
Adrian's frustrations with someone elses' family would quickly be the least of his concerns. Little did Adrian know, he would soon be closer to his redneck uncle, Mickey Flamingo, then he had ever been before. Immediately the personality clash is evident despite Mickey's blissful ignorance. Especially when it comes to Mickey booking Adrian in matches Adrian wanted no part of. Mickey's intentions may be good, but the reprocussions could be anything but.
In the midst of all of this, Adrian Flamingo found himself having more than his fair share of outings with then International Champion Senator Steve Phillips. Unexpectedly, his uncle Mickey had his positives in addition to getting Adrian into further problems. For one, after Adrian Flamingo claimed victory against Phillips in a cage match at Winter's Discontent, Mickey made an excellent distraction for Adrian to use to escape from a returning and VERY mad BK London. How long could Adrian hold off the healed ACW Legend?
It turns out not too long when in January, after a parking lot brawl, BK London put Adrian through a limousine, "paralyzing" him in the process. It was time for Mickey to start pulling his weight as he faced BK in a match at Ragnarok... and failed miserably. It was okay, however, Adrian knew that his uncle had no shot in hell of beating the ACW Legend. He wanted BK to wait for their encounter, hoping the further he put it off, the sloppier he got. Adrian was exposed for lying about his paralysis, however, and BK London would get his match at Genocide. A match that tested the limits of both men, but Adrian Flamingo picked up the crucial win by KO when BK London passed out to the Flamingo Stretch.
Adrian got what he wanted, a victory over BK London in a match that he never wanted to repeat, but BK naturally wasn't satisfied. Additionally, both men wanted a shot at the ACW World title and what better way to do it than entering into the Fallen Heroes Battle Royal? There was a slight problem in this for the Flamingos, however, they wanted to be as far away from BK as physically possible... while BK wanted the opposite. So, to settle this, the two had a series of matches where the person with the most victories would be given the ability to not only pick their entrance number, but the other man's as well. In the end, BK London won the series and chose Adrian to have the number 1 entrance spot and himself to have the number 2, forcing Adrian to face him again. Mickey, however, played a role in helping Adrian eliminate BK quickly. After lasting the longest out of anyone else in the match, it was BK London who had the last laugh when he caused Adrian's elimination.
Both men were livid about their opponents essentially screwing them out of a world title match and it wouldn't be too much of an issue to sign them to face one another. However, this time was going to be a little more brutal and a little more savage. While Mickey was tussling with a relative of BK's, Adrian was constructing a chain that would be used in his match with BK at Spring Into Hell. However, in the Russian Chain Match (which was a MOTYC), it was BK London who walked away the victor.
Due to the level of violence escalating between BK London and Adrian Flamingo, Chairman Gingerdude dropped a bombshell on the two men. At ACW's Anniversary Show in the Tokyo Dome in Japan, BK London would face off with Adrian Flamingo one more time in a Loser Leaves match. Additionally, Mickey had grown tired of Adrian's verbal abuse and left his nephew alone to face his hardest battle. Adrian's fuse was first lit when he was abandoned by a friend, and the flame burned hotter when it happened a second time. Despite a hard fought effort by both men, someone had to lose... someone had to leave. So, at the end of ACW's Anniversary Show, BK London finally got his revenge on the man who put him on the shelf by putting him out of the company. Without a fuss or a grumble, Adrian Flamingo accepted his fate and left.Recovery and RelapseAfter Adrian "Flamingo" Flanagan lost his Loser Leaves ACW match with BK London, he voluntarily committed himself to psychiatric care with the aid of family and friends. Despite the initial awkward transition, Flanagan showed signs of improvement after being diagnosed with a form of Dissociative Identity Disorder. This past year, his doctors thought he was well enough to rejoin the ACW roster but the stress and pressure of active competition proved to be too much for Flanagan and he was forced to leave for his own good.
However, recently ACW management have been contacted by Adrian's uncle, Michael "Mickey Flamingo" Flanagan, stating that Adrian has disappeared from his California home and has not been returning calls to his mobile phone. Michael told ACW Officials that he believed Adrian was "coming back home" and that they should be prepared for whatever version of Adrian showed up.
