So with the end of 2007/early 2008 time approaching, as mentioned I was slowly preparing to return to competitive action. Of course, as also mentioned, my previous few attempts at returning had been pretty poor, so I wanted to do something that would make people notice, and that would make people remember. Now I decided that I wanted to twist Dan up a little bit, and give him an alternate personality. It would sort of be similar to Mick Foley and his three alter egos. Dan would basically have the side of him that was always him, but he'd have another, more sinister side. I guess it would have been a cross between Rose and Cactus Jack: A brutal sadist.
And Thunderkiss would be the man who I would return against. That was a pretty awesome privilege, as he was the current World champion. What better than to return to ACW with a World Title shot on Pay Per View? Well I'd imagine some people didn't favour it as such, but at least it was at Fallen Heroes, a Pay Per View where many are often so reluctant to even have matches on the card, for fear of scuppering their chances of winning the Battle Royale. Personally I think that if you don't even feel you have an outside chance of winning, you should set yourself up for a match at the PPV, because in the last couple of years, we've been pretty low on matches.
But anyways, we built the storyline around Dan being the mystery unknown stalker. It would start off harmless, but become more and more weird and creepy each show. This cumulated into “Black & White” attempting to force Anna Sommers into pregnancy, which probably would have been the worst thing we'd have done in ACW to a non-NPC character. As it were, I was staved off by a doctor and all was well. I then made a return the show after to a pretty well received reaction, and despite some people's comments, I was determined that I was here to stay.
As for Black & White, I wanted to have it where Dan would shift between himself, and this alter ego quite rapidly. Like he could be happily fighting someone as Dan, then turn into B&W and just go utterly mental. I originally named my characters the “White Side” and the “Dark Side” of Dan. Contrary to what others assumed, including that he was both sides of a chess board, or both good and evil, I got my inspiration from a Queen album (surprise, surprise). The album in question was called “Queen II”, and instead of having a Side A and Side B, there was a Side White and a Side Black. The White side was calm and refreshing, solemn, in parts. But the Black side was loud, ferocious, and rather intimidating, and I wanted to be able to create this effect with Dan.
The gimmick was a moderate success, but I found myself stuck in a few ways. I just felt like whilst it was a great gimmick idea, it was moving away from what Dan White was supposed to be. Maybe if I had created another character with the same gimmick it may have worked, and I really could have seen the character lasting. But it wasn't to be, and in the end, I wrote it out as Dan discovering that the “Black” side of him was a demon. It may sound a bit daft, but the amount of times demons have featured in ACW, you'd have thought the ACW Arena was built on an Indian burial ground or something. Anyways, I wrote it out in a battle between Dan and the demon. You can interpret the battle any way you want, be it a physical battle between Dan and the demon, or a mental battle, with it all in his head.
Anyways, Black & White had gone, but I've missed out one major storyline. I'm going to go on about the Senator Omega Effect IV storyline in the next chapter.
Before I forget, I want to talk about Pyramid From Hell. Now I created this match because I wanted to make a match which was original, but not with enough stipulations to make even Jim Cornette confused. Or something. There's a lot of decent original matches in ACW, but some of them have too many stipulations for my liking. That's just me. I wanted to make a match which was simple enough, and let the match did the talking. And when I realised a pyramid-like structure had never been used in mainstream wrestling at least, I jumped at the chance to use it. I like to think that it's one of the better original concepts ACW has come up with, even if the name is a bit generic.
