All three grab a limb of Torak and attempt to pick him up but they only manage to get him a few inches off the ground. Torak slowly begins to regain consciousness and he starts to get up on his own. Rattlesnake charges towards the big man hoping to level him again but is stopped in his tracks when he is grabbed by the throat. Torak gorilla presses Rattlesnake in the air tosses him over the rope to the outside. With nothing to break Rattlesnake's fall, his land isn't too sweet.
Philip: Rattlesnake is eliminated!
Hunter and Latino immediately start attacking together, still working as a unit even without the presence of Rattlesnake. They manage to get him on the ropes with the flury of attacks and now they whip the huge man off the ropes. As Torak comes off the ropes he runs through them as if he were a huge rhino. Hunter and Latino slowly get back up to their feet after being tossed over and Torak grabs them both simultaneously by their throat. Hunter and Latino kick, punch, bite - basically using any method to free themselves from the clutches of Torak. They free themselves and set him up for a Double Suplex, which works perfectly. Both Hunter and Latino get up from the suplex and commend themselves and one another on a job well done - suddenly the epitome of evil rises up and a shocked expression comes across their face. Torak gets to a vertical base and he doesn't take too kindly of this team work thing. Hunter ditches the team work and pushes Latino into Torak before finding a safe place to hide and Latino is demolished by a huge Big Boot. Latino rolls towards the ropes and now Torak eyes Hunter, who is in the corner - hoping for Torak not to see him. Torak corners him in the corner and Hunter pleads for the big man not to hurt him, and slyly he jams his thumb in Torak's eyes. Torak grabs his eye in pain and Hunter marks out himself for what he has just done. He quickly returns to his senses though and starts chopping down the tree that is Torak with several kicks to the abdomen and legs. Latino rises up and kicks Torak stiffly in his gut before going for a DDT. The DDT fails when Torak uses his power to pick up Latino…
McNally: Look out! Is this the end of Latino’s dream?!
Predator: Heh, Latino’s luck is spent…
….and attempt to throw him over the top rope but Latino lands on the apron and holds on. Torak chops Latino in his chest, making his knees buckle but Latino refuses to die and holds onto the ropes. Hunter spins the big man and headbutts him in the face, a unorthodox manuever used by Hunter. Hunter whips Torak into the ropes but Torak comes back strong, and goes for a clothesline. Quickly this clothesline is evaded by Hunter and Torak keeps on running due to the momentum. Latino peeps this and he ducks, pulling down the top rope which sends Torak flying over it to the outside.
Philip: Torak is eliminated!
Latino slips back into the ring, exhausted; on the outside, Torak just lies there, his mind in complete disarray.
All that work…
All that effort…
…destroyed by one man – the man who has plagued his entire ACW existence…
Torak’s dark emotions explode forth, finally overwhelming the last stand of reason and contstraint – and the entire crowd shudders as Torak roars in complete and utter fury. Referees Jacobs and RAF attempt to send him to the back but to no avail, Torak has had enough and he takes out both referees ringside with a double armed clothesline. The referees are down, but Torak continues on, and storms over to the announce desk.
McNally: What the-
Torak grabs McNally by his collar and nearly pulls him over the replaced annoucing desk but Edison dives over the table and stops the assault. He tries to take on the huge monster but falls to a simple haymaker. Torak eyes Predator and Predator attempts to escape over the barricade but Torak grabs him by the leg and nearly knocks his block off with a clothesline. The crowd continues to show great disapproval for the monster, but they’re playing with fire now; Torak spins around, and looks at a tiny little girl in the front row, whose eyes are wide with fear as her oblivious carer boos. Slowly Torak approaches her, and he decks the adult as the crowd scatters; the girl is frozen with fear, and Torak looks down at her without pity, but Edison bravely makes the save and dropkicks Torak in his knee. Torak's knees buckle under him and McNally gets in on the attack, belting him with a stray monitor. It seems like Predator's turn to play hero but he can be seen hiding below the announcer's desk; Torak glares, and then gets on the apron and drives himself through the table, squashing Predator in the process. Everyone is shocked, and at last Security races down and grabs the big man while he's dazed and manages to get him out of the arena, with Medics carting an unconscious Predator off as well.
As things at last calm down, Latino has a cold feeling in his spine about where this could take him –but for now, only one thing is on his mind. He faces Hunter, and RAF gives the OK for the match to restart…
On the outside, McNally and Edison find their chairs, determined to see the marathon match through to its conclusion.
McNally: We’re back, folks, and this is it… which of these two men is going to Omega Effect?
Edison: It’s too tense, I can hardly stand it!

Hunter and Latino do not stand on ceremony… each understand the other’s desire, for it is the mirror of their own. Some rumbles end with a long, drawn out climax, but that is not in the nature of either man, and in seconds they find their way over to the ropes. Grappling, drawing on the very last of their reserves, they try to toss one another over the ropes, but their wills are still strong, even if their bodies are weakening.
The stalemate lasts a couple of minutes; Hunter hits the Shotgun, and Latino the switchblade cut, only for their opponent to escape their grasp at the pivotal moment before they are heaved out. With sweat pouring off of them, and their clothes and hair soaked, Hunter finally gets a drive on and pushes Latino back against the corner post. He rams him with his shoulder, and the noise from the crowd blocks out the sound of the post creaking, for it is as fatigued as the two men in the ring…
Latino tries to push Hunter back, and then to lift him up and suplex him over the top, but he does not have the strength; Hunter tries to shove Latino backward, but Latino hooks the ropes with his feet. Trapped, Latino has only one choice – to ascend one rope at a time in a controlled manner. Hunter climbs with him, until they are both on top of the post…
Hunter puts everything into a punch to knock Latino back, but Latino blocks it, and knees Hunter in the gut. Hunter wobbles, and Latino grabs him around the waist, about to throw him out of the ring while he himself jumps back safely into it-
And then without warning, the corner post, weakened by literally hours of abuse, fractures and slips. Both Latino and Hunter react completely on instinct; they jump before they fall….
….and the crowd loses it as both men drop to the outside, parting and rolling to protect themselves. It’s pandemonium, no one saw clearly who landed first, but RAF is on the case, and as the bell rings, he goes to the timekeeper’s corner.
After the Hunter/Dan White match, the referees have a new tool to call upon; a laptop computer sits with with software to replay the feed from the ringside cameras in super-slow motion, and RAF watches as the footage is played back, frame by frame. He furrows his brow, and then watches it again.
And again…
And again, this time with the other match referees, the timekeeper and even Philip watching it as well. RAF stands up, and looks at a single frozen shot.
After a long, long pause, RAF calls Philip over, and speaks to him. Philip looks shocked.
Philip: Ladies and Gentlemen… despite deploying the most advanced imaging software available, head Referee Raymond Allen Fleming has ruled that Hunter and Latino eliminated one another at precisely the same instant! Therefore…. the Fallen Heroes Rumble is a two-way tie!

The fans are as shocked by this as everyone else; Hunter and Latino both come to look at the image captured by the speed camera, and have to admit that they too cannot discern any difference between the two of them. The same shot is summoned to the alphatron, and the fans can see that even zoomed in to maximum resolution, there is not even a millimeter to choose between the pair. Hunter is the first to move, and holds up his arms, as if in victory.
Edison: What does this mean, Max? Do they both go to Omega Effect?
McNally: I guess the board of governers will have to make a special ruling, Eddie. This has never happened before… but kudos to RAF, if he can’t split them, then it wouldn’t be fair to declare either of them as winners. The honors are shared…
Edison: Maybe, but there’s only one ACW World Title, Max.
The crowd, now that they’ve got past the surprise, is on its feet cheering for both men. Latino gets back in the ring, and holds up his arms to the crowd making a belt gesture, while Hunter heads to the back, satisified that he’s done all he can for now. The fans have seen a truly awesome match, and now look forward to Meltdown to see how the situation will be resolved, but tonight both Hunter and Latino stand tall, at the top of the ACW tree…
But even the greatest joy can be fleeting, and wherever there is light, there is shadow.
For someone in the ACW building, the sun is about to set… and bring true darkness in its wake…

Closing Segment: The Crimson Sunset (Credit: Hunter)
Ah, the grandeur of melancholy…
The scene fades in as his footsteps grow louder and more powerful, not attempting to hide their ferocity or excitement at any events of the past. His walk is swift and he plows through those who stand before him as he fiddles with his wrist tape. Once it is off and his wrists can breathe freely, he cracks his knuckles and continues on his path, mere feet away from his final destination. He shoots his hand forward and opens the door to the Senatorial Office as quickly as possible, and sets foot inside the room. He closes the door loudly behind him and attracts the attention of Mr. Grimm and Mr. Cross, who now both stand before him silently. Hunter’s eyes travel across the room and fall upon the silent beauty of his beloved, but she does not look back at him. Hunter takes a deep breath, and then finally speaks.
Hunter: I was so fucking close!
Cross: Better luck next time, Mr. Hunter…
Hunter nods and the face that was flush with emotion quickly disappears mysteriously and he reverts to his infamous blank look. Cross and Grimm look behind him and notice the cameraman, and both instantly get the same look of annoyance.
Hunter: How is she?
Cross: …not a word for over a week. Nothing more, and nothing less.
Hunter: I’ll think of something.
He takes another deep breath, clearly exhausted due to the great amount of physical effort he had to exert mere moments ago. Out of the corner of his eye, he could swear that he saw something glinting appear from Grimm’s pocket and disappear behind his back, but he pays it no mind. However, looking around, he notices something else.
Hunter: …where are Truman and Waters?
Cross: I am glad you asked. They are collecting our paycheck.
Hunter: …your what? I just paid you.
Cross: Yes, YOU paid us. But we have more money coming in as we speak.
Hunter: I thought I was your only client?
Cross: Well, sometimes one must lie to attain what one desires.
Hunter: I see…so what did this other employer of yours ask you to do?
Cross: I am VERY glad you asked that. Mr. Grimm, will you do the honors?
Grimm smiles deviously and steps behind Hunter. Before Hunter can even react, the glinting object appears from behind Grimm’s back and gets slammed directly into the lower section of Hunter’s spine.
Hunter: AUUUUUUUUUUGH!
Grimm pulls the small black hammer back and delivers another shot to Hunter’s spine in the exact same location as before. He drops the hammer and pulls out a long rope, which he uses to tie Hunter’s wrists together. He then pulls very violently on the rope and drags Hunter over to the center of the room, which Hunter notices is much more open than before. Grimm then throws the rope up into the air and it is somehow able to fly through a small ring hanging from the ceiling and land motionlessly back before Grimm. Grimm grabs the rope and pulls down on it very quickly, jerking Hunter off the floor and causing him to be hung from the ceiling by his wrists. Grimm ties the bottom of the rope to another ring in the floor and steps back to marvel at his work. The cameraman takes a step back and Cross pulls out his gun blindly, pulling the trigger at an inhuman speed.
Bang.
Hunter: What…are you doing?
Cross silently puts his gun away as Grimm walks over to the slumped cameraman and picks up the camera, and then sets it up in the corner to face Cross.
Cross: Well, Mr. Grimm, I guess I owe you one hundred dollars. I did not expect the rings to actually hold his weight.
Grimm: They are strong enough.
Cross: But I did not think that three hours was enough time to properly install them into the floor and ceiling.
Grimm: Anything is possible in any amount of time.
Cross smiles and nods, and Grimm moves slightly back to allow his boss to speak with Hunter.
Cross: Clearly you are wondering just exactly what is happening right now, am I correct?
Hunter: Why…did you shoot the cameraman? What…the fuck…do you want from me?
Cross: Therein lies the irony, Mr. Hunter: I want nothing from you. This person…or rather, these people, want much more.
Hunter: …what are you talking about?
Cross: A man came into our office about a month ago. He was dressed completely in black and never once told us his identity. He had with him a black briefcase that we all looked at intently. He told us that in a week’s time, a Mr. Hunter would come to our office and ask for us to take a case. Despite its hardships, we are to take the case no matter what. We of course denied his request, and we did not even once take him seriously. But then he put the briefcase on the table and opened it, and we gazed on half of a million dollars. "The other half," he said, "will come when the job is done."
Hunter groans loudly as the pain coming from his spine grows rapidly.
Cross: At the sight of half of a million dollars…what could we possibly do but accept? He told us in great detail what you told us, and he told us where to find your woman and what to do when we found her. He told us what to do with those pimps and hookers, and he told us what to do when we could get you and your woman alone.
Cross smiles and folds his hands behind his back, and then begins to pace in front of Hunter.
Cross: You have naturally figured out what he told us to do when you came, and that was to accept the task. For the brothel, we were to take you there, and this man knew that you would volunteer yourself, amazingly enough. And then what were we to do when we arrived at the brothel?
He steps forward and comes face-to-face with Hunter.
Cross: We were told to kill every last person in the place, sans your woman.
Hunter cringes at the memory of the events that took place on that night as Cross simply smiles and takes a step back.
Cross: And we did so without question. What you never knew, Mr. Hunter, was that those people actually WERE innocent, to an extent. They found your woman, yes. But they did not rape her. They did not force her to be a prostitute. No, they gave her shelter, food, and the only clothing they had available. And they cared for her and they protected her from all of the evils in the world. When we requested her, the pimp said no. Not because she was "special", but because he cared too much about her to see her be…well, you understand.
Hunter: …no…I…what?
Cross: Mr. Hunter, we killed them because they were witnesses, nothing more and nothing less. They actually had decency, and they had humanity…and you helped us kill them.
Hunter is in complete shock as Cross takes another step back, now standing directly behind Sarah Smith.
Hunter: You…BASTARDS!
Cross: Ah, ah, ah. Do not be so cruel, we merely carried out our orders. So, after we killed everyone, we were told to take her and make sure the two of you were safe. And then, when the opportunity was perfect, we were told to take on the final task. And as you can see, this is our perfect opportunity…and THIS is our final task.
Hunter: What? Killing me?
Cross: On the contrary, we were told to leave you alive.
Hunter: Then…what?
Cross: Hmm. Something worse.

Cross smiles evilly and stretches out his right hand, which shoots across the throat of Sarah Smith. He uses his immense strength and pulls her off of and over the couch, setting her down on her feet before him. He unhands her and she stands completely still.
Hunter: …don’t you touch her.
Cross: A bit too late, I am afraid. Mr. Grimm, did you find anything suitable?
Grimm: As always.
Cross takes a step to the side and slightly rotates himself. He reaches his hand out, and another gleaming and glistening object shoots out from behind Grimm’s back. It flies into Cross’ hand and the latter admires it, and then reveals it to Hunter.
Cross: This, Mr. Hunter, is a knife.
Hunter: …I know that…what…what are you going to…?
Cross: As I said, Mr. Hunter…we were told to do something worse. Say goodbye.
Hunter is very confused at the ongoing situation…then Cross grabs Sarah Smith’s head and pulls her close. And then it hits him, and his eyes widen, and his world dies.
Hunter: NO!
It is over in the flash of a blade. The cut is very deep, and the skin of Sarah’s neck slightly peels back as Cross moves the bloody knife closer towards himself. Her blood sprays out of her neck at a rapid pace, spraying strongly enough to launch itself onto Hunter’s shoes. Hunter looks on in terror as a large pool of blood forms below Sarah Smith, and the weight in her legs escapes her. Her knees splash into the blood, and she slowly raises her head up and stares directly into Hunter’s teary eyes.
Hunter: …Sarah…
And that is the last thing she will ever see. Silently, she falls forward as her weight completely escapes her and she splashes into the pool of her own blood, sending drops of it everywhere. She never flinched, she never cried…
…she never even blinked.
Cross: …well that was slightly more macabre than I expected.
Hunter’s eyes are soiled with tears as he stares at the dead body of his beloved. Slowly, he moves his eyes up and looks into the eyes of his new enemy, an enemy he never thought he would have to face.
Hunter: …motherfucker…
Cross: Do not judge me, Mr. Hunter. I do it for the pay---
Hunter: YOU MOTHERFUCKER! I TRUSTED YOU!
Cross: Fine, you do not need to listen to me. I can simply leave and not tell you the rest of this story.
Hunter wants nothing more than the death of Cross, but he is able to restrain himself…for now.
Cross: Just as I thought. So, at this exact moment, Mr. Truman and Mr. Waters are collecting the other half of our million dollars, and I could not be more delighted. We have done everything we set out to do.
Hunter: …who was he?
Cross: I am afraid I do not know his real identity, as I said he never told us. But even if I did, it would mean nothing.
Hunter: …what?
Cross: The very last thing I am to do is relay this information to you…you see, Mr. Hunter, there are forces at work here that you could never imagine. You had a brother, correct, a Mr. Cage?
Hunter: Yeah…
Cross: When you finally confronted him, before you learned of his true identity, he said that he was a crazy sociopath who wanted nothing more than your suffering and misery. That was, of course, not true. For he is not this sociopath.
Hunter: What the hell are you talking about?
Cross: The truth is, Mr. Hunter, there ARE people whose sole purpose in life is to drive you mad. They change your life as they see fit, and they create your misery and your suffering. From the beginning of your life, they have been behind everything bad that has ever happened to you. Your brother? They faked his death and paid him off, that is why he escaped from it all. He was then paid more to come back and they promised him a reunion with his brother. They would have killed him sooner than later, but you apparently did that for them.
Hunter hangs his head low as Cross continues.
Cross: The arrival of Mrs. Smith and Miss Smith at the ACW arena to specifically test YOU for formidilosus? That was their doing, as they easily influenced those two to do what they did. They did not rely on you falling in love with your woman, however, but as you can see, they quickly were able to work around that.
Hunter looks down at Sarah’s body once more and quickly turns away.
Hunter: …who are these people?
Cross: Alas, I do not know, for I was not told. I am but the humble messenger. And my colleagues and myself have made sure that you will never get your revenge on us. The office no longer exists, nor does our phone number. It will be as if we never existed. And on that note, the man told me to tell you to not attempt to find them. He says that once they want to be found, they will be. Nothing more, and nothing less.
Cross turns around and gives the knife back to Grimm, who admires the blood on it.
Cross: Sharper than I imagined, Mr. Grimm.
Grimm: That is why I chose it. One of Mr. Hunter’s own.
Cross: Ah, the irony of all of this.
Grimm drops the knife and the two of them approach Hunter.
Cross: I believe it is time for us to depart. But I will leave you with one last thing…these people want you to be miserable. Why? I do not know. But maybe it is not that complicated of a reason. Maybe they simply hate you for their own reasons. So you can contemplate that for what it is worth. The world turns, Mr. Hunter…
He moves to the door and Grimm follows behind him, making sure to step into Sarah’s blood before continuing on.
Cross: …so why not turn with it?
He opens the door and he and his cohort step outside, slamming the door loudly behind them. Hunter slightly opens his eyes and looks at the ceiling. He notices the new ring in the ceiling that holds him…and yet he does not think of escaping whatsoever. His mind centers more on the thought of the existence of such people, people who only care about his suffering. When one truly ponders such a thought, one cannot help but fear…fear. Yes, that is what he has not seen nor felt in so long. But it is now back, and it refuses to leave.
And then Hunter’s eyes fall back upon the motionless body of Sarah Smith, who lies in the pool of her own blood. She did not blink, nor did she make a single noise throughout. But it does not matter, for she is now truly gone. There is too much for Hunter to think about now. He cannot take so many thoughts and so many sights that are full of carnage and terror. He closes his eyes as he feels his strength finally escaping him. He does not die, no. Instead, he falls into a long and magnificent sleep, one that he wishes would last forever, one that is free of pain and misery and temptation. But this personal heaven of his cannot last, and he will eventually succumb to the true terrors of what has just happened. He will understand, and possibly even accept what happened to Sarah.
The day one is born, the sun rises, and it stays up for as long as it can, for as long as the person can hold out. But one day, the sun turns crimson red, and it begins to set, and the person falls into darkness forever. We can hope for a future, but there may not be one on the horizon. Nothing more…
…and nothing less.
Fade to Black
End of Show.
