Real names is partly why UFC is destroying wrestling. Just sayin'. Can't argue with that. This generation is enamored with reality (and no imagination) and cannot give professional wrestling a bigger backing as a result. That is why I believe that pro-wrestling desperately needs to go in the opposite direction and promote itself as a stage show that does not take itself seriously. Right now they try to mimic MMA but cannot for the obvious reason that the average Joe cannot get over the fact that it is scripted. Time to break out a comic book style of approach. In conclusion, trying to define itself as a promotion that reflects true combatants is not the answer, as evident in the massive drop in ratings from the previous decade. It's not working. Wrestling needs gimmicks, colorful characters and instead is being held down by generic characters who all look the same, dress the same and act the same.

Wrestling needs gimmicks, colorful characters and instead is being held down by generic characters who all look the same, dress the same and act the same. That's a backwards approach, mostly because MMA has become popular as wrestling has gotten even cheesier and more non-believable. Wrestling really HASN'T mimicked MMA yet, I'm not sure why you're saying that. The WWE has gotten a little bit more realistic lately but they're definitely no where near looking like a legitimate competition. TNA is just a shit rip off of WWE so they're not doing anything new either. If a wrestling company opened up with guys who could work great and gave them perfect entertaining characters, it would take over. Unfortunately, WWE pushes good wrestlers who have shitty gimmicks, or shitty wrestlers who have decent gimmicks. It's never perfect.
