For some reason I went into “put people over” mode for the next couple of months. I have no idea why. The first of this was Jack Jefferson/Andrew Williams/Alex Richmond/Tornado, the latter name of which was his first character in ACW. But we'll call him Rob, cos that's his name. I always felt like it would be great to have some real life mates in ACW, especially the ones who were interested in wrestling. Rob was one of those people, and to help him find his boots, I would give him a good feud, which I think was the best feud I'd had since Hellbound Heart a year before with Kain.
We went down the whole angle of being in a former fed with each other, even though that was a blatant lie as ACW was both our first e-feds. Dan had crippled Tornado in the past, and Tornado needed some closure in it all. I thought it was a very well-worked feud, although it helped that we were at school as well so we got to discuss things there. As I was still a heel, I wanted to put him over the best I could. I allowed him to beat me cleanly, to make me tap out in the backstage, and it would all lead up to an I-Quit match, which I reckon was a pretty awesome read. It gave Rob a push that would lead him to the Junior Title the next month, and he also impressed enough to be scouted up by The Untouchables.
The month afterwards, I was in a Light-Heavyweight Title feud against Bre Double T. Now the feud wasn't really the biggest feud I've ever had, and it certainly didn't blow the water apart, but it was a nice little feud, and it was actually enough to get the second last match on the card. I lost the match, allowing myself to be submitted by Bre. This was for two reasons: Firstly, I wanted to put him over immensely, and secondly, because I had my own plans, and going into 2006 I wouldn't be around for the first couple of months, so being a champion would have been useless.
My big storyline was a football hooligan angle. It's an angle that, to this day, I've always wanted to do, so I'm not going to spoil it for now. Truth is, I've been meaning to do it for a very long time, but I've never really been able to get the timing right. I don't know whether it would be better to be off the roster and do the angle, or try to justify clocking up a lot of air miles. Either way, it's a storyline that I will hopefully be able to pull off one day.
So I decided to take January off. It would be the first PPV I would have missed since I joined ACW, but I felt that a short break was necessary, to recharge my batteries. Also this way, I could have justified the whole hooligan angle that happened at Winter's Discontent, and with about 7 weeks off it was always plausible that I was just “off camera sorting out my demons”. It also gave me the chance to re-evaluate my character. I thought I was doing pretty well, if I say so myself, but I felt that I could push myself a bit harder. But people were coming in from all directions. Torak had returned at Ragnarok, Yoko and Sarin were on their way to returning, and Rattlesnake was smashing through the ranks. It would take a lot to get noticed again when I returned.
