So we'd come back from the break and ACW was pretty different. Gone were two of ACW's best writers (well they were about, writing the big storyline that Blade had ruined, but they were pretty much inactive on the boards). With WCW 98 on my back, I felt it was going to be a good month. At that time my promos were still pretty dour, and WCW 98 was good to pump that bit of quality into them. But I knew I was progressing as a writer, and that before too long I'd be competing in the highest rank.
Anyways, for the month of July, I'd be engaged in a 7-person feud which would cumulate in a 7-Man Elimination match, and the feud would be revolved around the Seven Deadly Sins, which was the name of that PPV. The feud was pretty well played out, I think I had the sin of Envy, because I was envious of AK and Latino's relationship. It was a pretty big honour to be writing with those two that month, because they really were two of ACW's best. Although Latino was at a stage when he was jobbing left, right and centre. I reckon he'd have won pretty much every match he was in during the period of Omega Effect until the end of the year, but he was really focused on putting other people over, and indeed he let me pin him in the match.
The match was won by Wyvern. We all agreed that since he had planned to leave, he should win the match. I guess I should talk now about my...distaste for Wyvern. Now a lot of people liked him, and I will not deny that he wasn't an excellent writer. I thought he deserved a lot for what he did. But there was just something about him that was very, very arrogant. He was the type of person that was so far up his arse....well, I don't need to finish that sentence. He just seemed to try and praise himself at every opportunity. An example of this was heading up to Omega Effect 1, there was a poll for the most favourite storyline so far. His feud with Yoko had gotten no votes and he made a really antagonising post saying “I guess nobody cares about the biggest match of the year, then...” or something like that. It's the kind of person he was.
It all started with a topic that I think Fallen Souls made, in regards to the fact that a lot of the titles (bear in mind back then we had seven active titles) weren't being used a lot. This was around Spring Into Hell time. Wyvern then came in to say that both myself and G-Unit had pretty much avoided defending our belt against top opponents. That really offended me, although I didn't really say it in the topic. I mean I do feel I should have tried to have a proper feud around the title, but at the end of the day, I defended it six times in 105 days, which isn't bad if you remember that the two-week break's included in that. I beat Bladeshadow twice, Davey Marvel – Wyvern's best IRL pal – legitimately, and I was open to defending it against anyone. I offered the likes of Ridley, Rose, Wyvern himself a title shot, but they all rejected my offer.
It just really ticked me off, and I didn't think as a mod he had to come off as so arrogant. I mean what he said about G-Unit was ridiculous. To say that they had turned back every eligible challenger? It's not their fault there were so little teams about at the time. And I mean you can't really say that Wyvern had a good reign either. His International Title reign wasn't anything to scream off the rooftops for. Additionally, I don't think that he deserved to win Fallen Heroes. I thought that again, that was the “kliq” working their magic and he was their hand-picked newcomer. In fact I think he ended up leaving ACW for HWL alongside those that defected, and I actually thought “good riddance” when he decided to leave the fed, from his mod position and all.
I suppose I should talk about the Lightweight Title, actually. Basically I was stripped of my title. It all happened because Yoko was pranking me and it lead to a situation where I was jokingly going to blackmail him. Rose for some reason IM'd me about what was up and I said, and Rose took it to great offence, for some reason. He demanded an apology, he demanded that I was punished, and he took it too far for no reason whatsoever. I thought it was absolutely daft, but I figured they might as well take my title, since not only had I broke the record for the longest reign (at that time), but I'd also be an undefeated champion. But noooo, Rose decided I hadn't been punished enough, so I agreed to go on a one-week suspension. The funny thing is I only agreed to that because I went on vacation for a week anyways, so it's not like I felt like I was punished.
I should also make note that at that Seven Deadly Sins, I wrote no less than about 15,000 words, including the Fallout Pre-Show, and three of the eight matches on the card. I was pretty proud of achieving that.
But with all that out the way, ACW was changing a lot. I had been in the fed for almost a year, and a lot of the people that made that year happen were gone. Bob, Amo, Kross, Ridley, Rose, TNT, Wyvern, Skurai, Blade, Yoko, and I'm probably missing one or two others. But we'd brought in some interesting new talent, such as the likes of Mr. Red, Scott Andrews, Hitman, Kudo, Bre Double T, and Vladimir Rasputin. I believe that since the switch from GFWCW to ACW, this was the first case of a new generation filing through the ranks. And it also began the story of the greatest ACW stable of all time.
